Throughout four deliberation sessions, Assembly Members decided to advance this idea to one of the final borough ballots for New Yorkers to vote on. The idea has been edited by Assembly Members and CEC staff to fit ballot character limits and remove all references to specific institutions and geographies. Here is the final idea title and description as it will appear on the ballot:
Creative Economies: Workforce Development w the Arts
- Idea Submission for The People's Money:
- This program offers a year-long exploration of art and cultural sector jobs, broken into 6 or 8 week cycles. Participants learn about museum work, public engagement, gallery operations, and arts administration. Through learning and interactive experiences, individuals discover how their strengths can translate into a fulfilling career in NYC's art and cultural sector. Towards the end of the program, students are supported in finding internships and accessing resources to further build their skills in local private, nonprofit, or public organizations or centers.
- What is the problem your idea aims to address?
- Many people are not aware of the wide range of art and culture jobs in NYC, beyond traditional roles like painter, actor, or dancer. You can work in art administration, as an art registrar or museum collection specialist, archivist, advertising, teaching, placemaking, production, public program manager, and more. These roles bring art into everyday life, offering a chance to build skills and find a fulfilling career.
