Far Rockaway Youth Arts and Crafts Program

Jeffrey Driver 10/24/2026 05:21

What is your idea?: Offer a free, 12-week series of hands-on arts and crafts workshops for youth at one existing community location in Far Rockaway. Participants will try painting, collage, tote design, jewelry-making, air-dry clay, and other age-appropriate projects. The program will provide basic materials, invite youth to help choose activities, and conclude with an optional showcase of their work. Sessions will follow the host site’s youth safety procedures.
What problem is your idea trying to solve?: Young people in Far Rockaway may face barriers to free, recurring arts and crafts activities near home. Class fees, supply costs, and transportation can make creative programs difficult to access. This program would bring materials and guided activities to one local community space, giving youth a place to develop creative skills, express themselves, and make projects with peers.
Which group(s) does your idea focus on?: Youth (under 24)

Older Adults (65 +)

Public Housing Residents

Parents
