Frequently Asked Questions about The People's Money

What makes an idea submission acceptable?

To be accepted, your idea must meet these criteria:

  • It must be an expense project. This means programs, services, or events — not capital projects like construction, building repairs, or new equipment.
Examples: after-school programs, art classes, or community mental health initiatives.

  • It must not require new city laws or additional staff. Ideas should work within existing city resources and legal frameworks.

  • It must respect the rights of all New Yorkers. Submissions should not discriminate or exclude any community members.

  • It must be detailed enough to review. Submissions should clearly explain how the idea would work so the Civic Engagement Commission (CEC) can fully understand it.
