Idea Submission for The People's Money:
- Creating educational programs or workshops about the local green environments that is free and accessible regionally to the neighborhoods and that is held seasonally so that people will know about what to look out for during the seasonal changes. - Developing a mobile app or guidebook for identifying plants in the Bronx - Collaborating with local organizations to provide safe and accessible green spaces - Offering training or resources for parents, pet owners, and community members to learn about plant identification and safety
What is the problem your idea aims to address?
NYC has limited green coverage. There are plants, flowers, and trees that most people cannot identify. People sometimes mistaken plants to be edible and/or ""harmless"" which sometimes may lead to trouble for their pets, children, and/or adults when they access them without knowing their properties. Lack of knowledge of The Bronx's green environments leads to misinformation and misuse. In short: 1. Lack of environmental awareness: Many people in the Bronx may not be familiar with the local green environments, including the types of plants, flowers, and trees that exist in the area. 2. Lack of service that offers safety and education: The lack of knowledge about these plants can lead to accidental ingestion or misuse, potentially harming people and pets.
