What happened during Idea Generation?

In the fall of 2025, New Yorkers were invited to attend Idea Generation Workshops to:

• Learn how the city budget works

• Talk about what their neighborhoods need

• Share and develop ideas to improve their communities

They also submitted ideas online, here at Participate.nyc.gov.

Idea Eligibility Criteria:

• It must be a program or service, not something that needs building or fixing (like repairs or construction).

• It should solve a community problem without needing new laws or more City staff.

• It needs to have enough information so the CEC can understand the idea.

• It must respect everyone’s rights.

Highlights from Idea Generation!

• Before launching, the CEC led a robust engagement process to request proposals from community-based organizations and other groups to partner with us to facilitate Idea Generations Workshops across the five boroughs. 79 partners were selected. Get to know our IG partners.

• The CEC and our partners facilitated 473 Idea Generation Workshops across the city through which we engaged 9,784 New Yorkers. See all of the community IG workshops hosted across the city.

• In total, New Yorkers submitted 2285 ideas across the five boroughs. View all submitted ideas.
