26-30 Foot Dome Greenhouse
- What is your idea?
- To build a 26-30 foot wide heated dome greenhouse at the Fred McLeod Community Garden in Brownsville, Brooklyn. The greenhouse will provide a year-round space where schools, churches, senior organizations, and community residents can learn about gardening, growing healthy food, and caring for the environment. It will give people of all ages a place to learn, connect, and grow together, even during the colder months making it year-round accessible.
- What problem is your idea trying to solve?
- Gardening education is often limited to the warmer months because we do not have a heated, indoor growing space. A dome greenhouse will allow us to offer classes and hands-on activities throughout the year. To make this project successful, we need funding for the greenhouse structure, heating, instructors’ stipends, and maintenance staff. We also need approval from the NYC Department of Buildings and the NYC Parks Department’s GreenThumb program.
- Which group(s) does your idea focus on?
