Describe the challenge you want to address:
Youth experiencing homelessness in New York City shelters face a significant lack of access to quality STEM education, particularly in robotics. This educational gap hinders their academic development and future career opportunities, perpetuating the cycle of homelessness and limiting their potential to break free from poverty.
What is the solution to the challenge?
Our team will train and mobilize educators to teach robotics to students in grades three and up within NYC shelters. We have created a comprehensive yet accessible curriculum, built around LEGO robots, that empowers children living in shelters to gain an understanding of robotics. Through our partnership with local shelters, students will receive hands-on experience building and coding a robot via a team of volunteers that our organization trains. They will also have an opportunity to iterate on their designs and learn to code by participating in fun challenges and mini-competitions.
