Idea Submission for The People's Money:: The NYPD should be streamlined in order to better cooperate with local communities. 1) Ineffective officers should be removed in order to free up police resources to be used at more critical moments and locations 2) Be strict with enforcement, and do not indulge repeat offenders 3) Proactively work directly with community members in order to alleviate cultural and linguistic issues
What is the problem your idea aims to address?: We believe that the safety of the public realm needs to be better managed, not merely be infused with new investment. We see that many police are not very strict with enforcement of their duties. However, over- and under-policing both exist within the NYPD. The public safety department has not fulfilled their mandate, so we believe that the NYPD should be restructured, not merely supplied with greater funding.
