What problem would you like to solve?

Students in our building don't always have the time or the resources to explore NYC. This has been exacerbated by the pandemic where students have had even less interaction with all that NYC has to offer in terms of experiences such as museums and cultural attractions. We would love to expand their horizons and get them out of the building as often as we can.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Many of our students have had little experience with all that NYC has to offer in terms of enriching our curriculum and taking them places outside of their own classroom. For many of our students having trips that cost money is a concern and can be a barrier for them to experience what NYC has to offer. We want to get our students out of the building more and provide a more rounded and equitable educational experience.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

We would establish the Little New Yorker program in which teachers can be more adventurous in the trips they plan so that funding would become less of a barrier to both the planning and execution of various field trips.

    Who would that help?

This would help students at MS 118.

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

    The Bronx.
