Idea Submission for The People's Money:: Youth Wellness and Technology Internship Pathways
What is the problem your idea aims to address?: Sugar Hill, Washington Heights, Inwood, and the broader community have limited paid internship pathways for teens interested in hands-on trades, wellness careers, and technology innovation. Many young people, especially first-generation, immigrant, multilingual, and underserved youth, lack exposure to professional fields that are both culturally relevant and financially sustainable. This project addresses: Youth employment and career exposure, workforce development in high-demand trades, access to safe and supportive mentorship spaces, opportunities for entrepreneurial learning, engagement of youth in positive, skill-building environments, pathways that reflect community culture (barbershops, salons, wellness centers) Preparation for 21st-century technology careers with Tech innovation and digital media labs and hubs. By integrating wellness and tech, the program boosts both economic opportunity and community well-being.
