Idea Submission for The People's Money:
Youth Wellness and Technology Internship Pathways
What is the problem your idea aims to address?
Sugar Hill, Washington Heights, Inwood, and the broader community have limited paid internship pathways for teens interested in hands-on trades, wellness careers, and technology innovation. Many young people, especially first-generation, immigrant, multilingual, and underserved youth, lack exposure to professional fields that are both culturally relevant and financially sustainable. This project addresses: Youth employment and career exposure, workforce development in high-demand trades, access to safe and supportive mentorship spaces, opportunities for entrepreneurial learning, engagement of youth in positive, skill-building environments, pathways that reflect community culture (barbershops, salons, wellness centers) Preparation for 21st-century technology careers with Tech innovation and digital media labs and hubs. By integrating wellness and tech, the program boosts both economic opportunity and community well-being.
