Public Self-Defense Classes

Idea Submission for The People's Money:
Free self-defense classes/workshops for all teenagers and young adults. They would teach people karate, running endurance, and what to do in specific scenarios. For example, if you're tied up or held hostage, etc. The workshops would be in public schools through the five boroughs.
What is the problem your idea aims to address?
People take a lot of public transportation, crime rates in the city have been increasing. Sexual harassment, subway surfing and taking drugs have all been factors of the dangers throughout New York. There has to be an initiative for public safety to protect the people of New York.
