Lack of access to mental wellness, education, creative outlets, business mentorship, and cultural capital continues to isolate and exhaust entire communities. People are expected to take care of others, lead, and show up — all while being denied rest, resources, and support. NYC schools are facing $550 million in budget cuts. Mental health services remain out of reach. BIPOC roles in media and leadership are shrinking and being erased. Creative programs are being slashed, while care and wellness are treated as luxuries. The result is a generation of brilliant people being forced to piece together care, strategy, and opportunity on their own — while navigating burnout, trauma, and economic instability.

  • -The Creative Care Lab is a 14-week wellness, media, and leadership program helping Black and Brown New Yorkers move from survival mode to stability. Based in Brooklyn, it blends mental health tools, business and life skills, media training, and cultural confidence to support people in building sustainable futures.

Too many Black and Brown New Yorkers — especially in neighborhoods like Flatbush, Brownsville, East New York, and Bed-Stuy — are stuck in survival mode. Not because they lack talent, but because they’ve been denied access to wellness, mentorship, education, and creative or economic opportunity.

Many have never been taught how to manage stress, advocate for themselves, or navigate New York’s creative and professional landscape. Meanwhile, toxic workplaces, financial insecurity, and the erasure of BIPOC voices continue to widen the opportunity gap.
