Describe the challenge you want to address:

In Central Harlem, statistics reveal that 39% of residents hold a college degree, while one in five have completed high school. Over the past decade, the community has seen significant changes, particularly within the educational system and youth programs. However, there remains a critical gap in ensuring post-high school success for all students. Despite improvements, many students face challenges due to a lack of parental engagement, limited access to one-on-one mentoring, and insufficient support systems to help guide them toward postsecondary education and career pathways.

What is the solution to the challenge?

The DreamSeekers Academy is a postsecondary college and career development program that grants students the opportunity to select their focus of study and build the blueprint. Each quarter we will provide workshops and have exploration trips for students that will guide them through a year of building what success looks like once they graduate high school. Each student, will be paired with a mentor that has experience in their field of study, who will support them throughout the year and after to ensure they are completing their road maps. At the end of the cohort cycle, each student will need to present their blueprint map "Map to my Dream" to their family, friends, fellow Dreammates and mentors.
Post cohort closure, we will meet quarterly for check-ins to see the status of students.
Our proposed program encompasses a range of workshops, seminars, mentoring, college trips and hands-on activities designed to address key areas such as:
Career Exploration: Helping students identify their interests, strengths, and potential career paths.
College Readiness: Assisting students in navigating the college application process, including SAT/ACT preparation and financial aid guidance.
Financial Literacy: Providing essential knowledge on budgeting, saving, and making informed financial decisions.
Professional Development: Offering insights into workplace etiquette, resume building, and interview skills to enhance their employability.
Life Skills: Focusing on critical life skills such as time management, communication, and problem-solving.
