How does your organization plan to bring this idea to life?

Our team will run a six-week program hosted at partner schools and community centers, where students will learn the fundamentals of podcasting, media production, and communication. Each cohort will create a podcast episode that highlights youth perspectives on local issues. Workshops will cover audio engineering, lighting, editing, teamwork, and presentation skills—all designed to promote creative expression, confidence, and career readiness.

What motivated your organization to apply to implement this idea?

New Harlem Renaissance was founded to give Harlem and uptown youth access to the creative tools and mentorship we wished we had growing up. We’ve seen firsthand how creative media can transform confidence, mental health, and opportunity. This project aligns perfectly with our mission to use the arts and media as a pathway for education, healing, and workforce development.

How do you think this project will make a difference in your community?

By training local youth in valuable creative skills, this program will open doors to career pathways in media and technology while fostering pride and representation. It empowers young people to tell their own stories, strengthens community identity, and creates a positive outlet that helps prevent violence and disengagement.

List at least one thing you're excited about related to this project!

We’re most excited to give young people in Washington Heights and Inwood real hands-on experience in podcasting, video production, and digital storytelling. This project will allow youth to express their voices, build confidence, and learn skills that can turn into future careers in media, marketing, and communications.

How can someone participate or stay up to date on the project?
