Provide a short (one to two sentence) description of your project

Rockaway Strong: Y.E.S. empowers youth 7-17 through a blend of academics, vital life skills, and sports activities that promote healthy living, leadership, academic success, and community connections.

Briefly summarize what your organization will do to implement this project

Rockaway Strong: Y.E.S. in Far Rockaway provides youth with a structured after-school program, Monday-Friday, 3-8 p.m., combining academic support, life skills workshops, and sports like basketball, soccer, dance, and volleyball. Youth choose sports, grouped by age, and led by dedicated coaches, promoting teamwork and personal growth.

What motivated your organization to apply for this project?

OBCDC is well-suited to implement the Rockaway Strong: Y.E.S. program due to our strong presence in Far Rockaway. Our successful Sports for Family Health Program engaged over 300 youth with a 60% attendance rate in three years, showcasing our ability to connect with local youth and involve families in our initiatives.

How do you think this project will make a difference in the community?

The Rockaway Strong: Y.E.S. program will provide youth in Far Rockaway with holistic resources and support, promoting physical health, academic success, and imparting life skills. The program creates a nurturing environment that empowers youth to break free from systemic barriers, ultimately enabling them to envision and forge brighter futures

List at least one thing you're excited about related to this project!

How can someone participate or stay up to date on the project?

We will ensure accessibility and engagement with the Rockaway Strong Y.E.S. Program through a multi-faceted approach. Community members can participate through volunteering opportunities and paid employment for high school and college students, offering valuable work experience. Outreach efforts include regular social media updates, flyer distribution in high-traffic areas, and promotions during community events. Partnerships with local organizations, schools, and civic groups will expand program visibility, while information sessions and email campaigns will provide detailed updates. Additionally, local media features and word-of-mouth advocacy will highlight the program's benefits and encourage widespread participation.
