Essential

Disability Warmline

Avatar: Community Member Community Member

What problem would you like to solve?

People with disabilities don't have a place to turn for non-emergency emotional support. We would like to offer a compassionate ear, with resource advice and action planning available, to callers.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

It's important to address the disconnection felt by so many people who don't have a place to turn when their problems aren't emergencies but are significant for them.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Creating a non-emergency warmline (not hot, but a line to call into) to get support when needed prevents non-emergency situations from growing down the line.

Who would that help?

This would help the 26% of the population who are people with disabilities, plus their friends, families, coworkers and communities, so it would potentially help everyone.

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

Brooklyn
