What problem would you like to solve?

The police, fire, and EMS workers often mishandle situations where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are involved due to their lack of understanding and knowledge.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

This is very important because people with I/DD are often made to feel uncomfortable or even violated because of the way they are treated by the people who are supposed to be protecting them.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Create disability awareness and sensitivity trainings that are mandatory for all emergency response workers to participate in at least once per year.

    Who would that help?

People with intellectual and developmental disabilities, NYPD, NYFD, EMS workers.

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

    Manhattan
