Essential

Technology Literacy for Asian Seniors

Avatar: Community Member Community Member

What problem would you like to solve?

There is a growing divide in the Asian community where seniors are not able to keep up with cellphone and computer trends while younger adults and youth advance. This divide is causing seniors to communicate less with their families as reliance on technology based communication advances

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Seniors are feeling more isolated as families move away and street safety fears keep them at home. This is not healthy for their emotional and mental well being.

Young adults become increasingly frustrated with the seniors lack of technology skills and often stop communications rather then deal with the difficulty.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Traveling mobile training programs directed toward seniors at senior centers in Asian languages to teach them about the latest communication technology and equipment

Who would that help?

Limited English proficient seniors

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

Queens
