Essential

More Accessible ESL and Citizenship Classes

Avatar: Community Member Community Member

What problem would you like to solve?

The problem that we would like to solve is the lack of ESL and citizen preparation classes in neighborhoods with large immigrant populations.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

This is important to solve because families risk their lives and leave behind old lives in search for a better one here. Learning English is key to working in America and eventually becoming a citizen and having classes available for those who want to learn and study for the exam would be extremely beneficial.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

An idea to combat this issue is pushing for more ESL classes and citizen preparation classes in local community centers, libraries, community colleges, etc.

Who would that help?

This would help immigrants and migrants who want to find work here and work up to becoming a citizen.

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

All boroughs would benefit from this idea.
