What problem would you like to solve?

This senior thought that there were not enough Black students enrolled in medical schools. As a result, Black patients do not get care from people who look like them.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Increasing the numbers of black students who become physicians means more comfort between physicians and patients of color and increased incomes within the community. Black youth need to be exposed to more people achieving high levels of success to know what is possible.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

This senior would like to see a Black doctor/Black youth mentorship program that would provide a mirroring/mentorship opportunity for young Black youth to see what is possible

    Who would that help?

This would help young Black youth and ultimately Black patients who would have the comfort of care from someone who is more likely to understand their needs and concerns

What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?

    East Flatbush
