Free Duathlon/Triathlon/Bike Races in every borough
- Idea Submission for The People's Money:
- The New York Racing Club (NYRC) proposes to organize five free-of-charge multisport events—one in each borough. These events will include a mix of triathlons (swim-bike-run), duathlons (run-bike-run), and bicycle races. To achieve this, NYRC will leverage NYC Parks permits that we already hold or have applied for. Each race will provide an accessible entry point for participants of all ages and abilities while fostering a sense of community through sport. By removing cost barriers and bringing events directly to each borough, this initiative will help New Yorkers take their first steps into fitness and connect with athletic communities citywide.
- What is the problem your idea aims to address?
- "New York City faces a growing need to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among its residents. Many individuals, especially beginners, find it difficult to take the first step toward sports due to financial, logistical, or motivational barriers. Additionally, there is an opportunity to strengthen connections within NYC’s athletic communities and encourage collaboration across boroughs. Together, we can inspire thousands of New Yorkers to embrace a healthier, more active lifestyle."
