Throughout four deliberation sessions, Assembly Members decided to advance this idea to one of the final borough ballots for New Yorkers to vote on. The idea has been edited by Assembly Members and CEC staff to fit ballot character limits and remove all references to specific institutions and geographies. Here is the final idea title and description as it will appear on the ballot:

Idea Submission for The People's Money:
A maternity and Child Care program will be an environment for families to receive the support they need. Provide resources like toiletry, or newborn products to families where it is not easily accessible. There can be sessions where parents can meet with a trusted staff and talk about their problems. With this parents can form bonds and have their voices heard. Some sessions could be a mixture of educational lectures or meetings. Communication is an important aspect in understanding ones health and well-being. Parents should know the right to their health, what to do what not to do and how to seek the proper resources individually because in some cases nobody is there to actually tell them. In this program, caregivers can learn about the beauty of their pregnancy and caregiving, interventions, child behavior management, Health books, and other information to understand their Health as well as their child. Lastly the program can help individuals with job support, babysitting/ daycare services, scholarship benefits, support with maternity leave.
What is the problem your idea aims to address?
The issue is maternity and prenatal disparities. There are a lot of factors that affect the health of a parent. Economic factors; physical factors such as health challenges; social factors and other life factors that can be accounted. If an individual is planning to have a child, it is possible that they don't have all the resources to care of themselves. Individuals also need support in maternity leave since the process is not always smooth; Mental health
