Idea Submission for The People's Money:
A foundational course curated by BIPOC activists consisting of lectures, workshops, webinars, training, and skill-shares that will cover how residents can take action for climate and food justice in their community through community building and outreach, civic literacy, green careers, and hands-on activities. Content may look like readings, pubic speaking trainings, community organizing calls to action, and other resources to help community members get involved locally. Topics would cover food justice (addressing food security, learning how to grow food in small spaces), green spaces in our city (parks and gardens operations and education), green career development, and civic engagement strategies. We will have translation services for accessibility. Target audience is youth 14-24 and their communities.
What is the problem your idea aims to address?
Many young people in our city feel they do not have the power to change their day to day lives. This idea will introduce community members to the number of ways they can take action, whether it is through a community garden, neighborhood association, or though joining their district community board.
