Career Development for Underserved Artists

Avatar: Arts Gowanus Arts Gowanus
Idea Submission for The People's Money:
This workshop series hopes to guide underserved artists through both practical concerns, like how to file their taxes and apply for grants as an artist, and more creative concerns, like best practices for developing a strong portfolio and submitting their work. It will center around talks, discussions, and hands-on workshops with professional artists, curators, culture workers, and more.
What is the problem your idea aims to address?
Creating a sustainable career as an artist can be incredibly difficult, especially in New York City's highly competitive and hierarchical art world. This workshop series hopes to guide underserved artists through the practical realities of developing a long-term, successful career in the arts.
