Throughout four deliberation sessions, Assembly Members decided to advance this idea to one of the final borough ballots for New Yorkers to vote on. The idea has been edited by Assembly Members and CEC staff to fit ballot character limits and remove all references to specific institutions and geographies. Here is the final idea title and description as it will appear on the ballot:
Mobile Support & Wellness Truck for Older Adults
- Idea Submission for The People's Money:
- This mobile wellness truck deserves funding because it brings vital support directly to older adults who often face barriers to transportation, healthcare access, and social connection. By offering on-the-go health checks, resources, and meaningful engagement, the truck helps seniors stay healthier, reduces isolation, and connects them to services they might otherwise miss. With more funding, the program can reach more neighborhoods, prevent avoidable health issues, and ensure older adults age with dignity, support, and community.
- What is the problem your idea aims to address?
- A traveling wellness truck that visits neighborhoods, senior centers, and housing complexes to bring essential services directly to older adults. The truck would offer: • Basic health screenings (blood pressure, glucose, fall-risk checks) • Wellness workshops (nutrition, mobility, digital literacy) • Resource navigation (benefits assistance, caregiver support, local program info) • Social connection activities (games, conversations, intergenerational meet-ups)
