The Cooking Club

Avatar: Fifth Avenue Committee Fifth Avenue Committee
Idea Submission for The People's Money:
he proposal is for The Cooking Club, an intergenerational program that teaches safe cooking techniques, disaster preparedness, and budget-friendly meals. Participants can earn a food handler’s certificate. The program includes starting a herb garden, hosting special guest chefs, and providing cooking supplies and instructor support. It aims to attract youth and provide a social space for elders.
What is the problem your idea aims to address?
Many residents lack access to affordable, healthy cooking education and food safety training. Elders and youth often face isolation and limited opportunities for skill-building. This program will create a welcoming, intergenerational space where participants learn practical cooking techniques, disaster preparedness, and budget-friendly meal planning—all while earning a food handler’s certificate.
