Community Board Disaster/Transit Alert System
- Idea Submission for The People's Money:
- Creating a dedicated, hyperlocal communication channel for rapid dissemination of transit closures, emergency weather alerts, and localized safety advisories.
- What is the problem your idea aims to address?
- Official citywide alert systems like Notify NYC are necessary for major, city-spanning events but often lack the street-level detail needed for immediate action in a specific neighborhood. A citywide alert might say, "Heavy rain is causing mass transit delays. Information on local bus reroutes, unscheduled gaps in service, and the impact of non-MTA events (like car accidents or construction) on bus lines often moves slowly through official channels or is buried in the general MTA service status. City systems often require a smartphone, an internet connection, or proficiency in digital registration methods (email, app downloads) that may exclude older adults, immigrant communities, and residents with limited internet access.
