Describe the challenge you want to address:
We know individuals living in their own communities know what their neighborhoods need more than anyone else. The challenges is training and educating people on how to implement projects, campaigns, and programs for their own neighbors. There is currently a large group of Black and Brown LGBTQ people in Upper Manhattan who need the support to implement a way to create local power and programming.
What is the solution to the challenge?
Hosting an LGBTQ Advocacy Institute that provides residents with the training and mentorship needed to understand the theoretical and programmatic components of effective organizing, along with the tools needed to implement a successful campaign in local communities.
The goal of the program is for individuals to identify local challenges in their community and create solutions through developing programs, community building, and policy change.
Through this project at least 10 initiatives will be launched, all identified and run by community.
