Describe the challenge you want to address:: According to the National Association for Children of Addiction, 1 in 4 children under the age of 18 in the United States are affected by parents who abuse alcohol or drugs. According to the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, the Bronx had the highest number of drug overdose deaths of all five boroughs. According to the NYC Mayor's Office of Community Mental Health: "The highest poverty neighborhoods have over twice as many psychiatric hospitalizations per capita as the lowest poverty neighborhoods in New York City." This is precisely the case in the Bronx. There's not enough free and accessible resources for public school students who have parents and guardians suffering from addiction, especially in low-income communities like Mott Haven.
