Describe the challenge you want to address:
MTA MUSIC (Music Under New York) selects musicians to perform in MTA's transit system. What about expanding the network and bringing more music and street performers to public areas? Music impacts our mental health and actives public spaces.
What is the solution to the challenge?
We should have a list of public spaces where we invite street musicians to perform—not just Times Square or Central Park, but more residential parks and less crowded squares—to bring more life to the neighborhoods.
Specific rules should govern when and how performances are performed, but the list should serve more as an invitation. Some performances might be supported by the city or outside donations to ensure that artists are paid and agree to perform in lower-income districts.
Every New York should have a right to access live music.
