This can be due to some residents’ perception of crime increasing, while others may be concerned about incarceration, policing, and the implications of Rikers Island closing. Some participants are also survivors of violent crime, or close to people who are survivors. \n\nThus, it’s a central topic on New Yorkers’ minds and it’s something that affects every community and sub-community in the city. On the one hand, crime itself is a symptom and a cause of an unhealthy community, but the perception of increased crime that isn’t proportional to the reality can instill fear, further making people feel unsafe.\"\n\n</div></dd><dt name=\"textarea-1694626369303-0\">Describe your idea and approach to address the challenge:</dt><dd id=\"textarea-1694626369303-0\" name=\"textarea\">\n\n<div>\"The core idea here is to create, host, and facilitate spaces for community members to have a dialogue about crime generally: a space for education, support, and community-strengthening. \n\nSurvivors of crime can have a space to talk about how they have been affected and their perception of safety and community has\nchanged, but advocates and educators can also facilitate and discuss bigger picture what is fueling crime, and what are positive community-based approaches to preventing it and improving public trust.\"\n\n</div></dd><dt name=\"text-1695292616659-0\">Write the zipcode that best represents your New York City community:</dt><dd id=\"text-1695292616659-0\" name=\"text\">\n\n<div>Virtual\n\n</div></dd></dl></xml>"]
