This project will encourage consumption of healthy foods and promote nutrition education in zip codes 10452, 10456 and 10453 by increasing access to and knowledge of these initiatives.

We will increase access to and knowledge of healthy foods by promoting Health Bucks produce vouchers in the community; disseminating nutrition education at partner sites; and enhancing our Healthy Pantry Initiative (HPI)’s efforts to engage partner sites and food pantries on policy and systems changes while providing nutrition education materials.

Our connection to the community is what motivated us to apply for this project. We implement a community-based approach where we assess the needs of the community and regularly collect resident input through a variety of meetings held with community partners in the Bronx and through coalition member surveys.

Following the grant period, our partners will have the training regularly apply for Health Bucks independently. We will be able to apply nutrition education via cooking demo trainings, the HPI initiative, and encourage a healthy eating environment at their site. We will also continue to supply technical assistance to sites ensure sustainability.

Using innovative communication strategies and non-traditional dissemination venues to optimize reach into our priority communities with trusted leaders (e.g., faith-based/community settings, social media channels, etc.)
