Original Idea Voted on by New Yorkers: The program will provide self-defense and situation awareness for women 18 years old and above. The purpose is to educate them on personal safety and the ability to defuse potentially dangerous encounters.

\nHow does your organization plan to bring this idea to life?
Malikah plans to implement a multi-faceted engagement strategy ranging from leveraging local partnerships to hosting community events and workshops. We will partner with community-based organizations, local schools, religious institutions, and neighborhood groups within the TRIE neighborhoods.
What motivated your organization to apply to implement this idea?
Malikah applied to bring self-defense training to Washington Heights, responding to a strong community demand for practical safety tools. This project empowers women and marginalized groups, fostering resilience, confidence, and unity.
How do you think this project will make a difference in your community?
This project will empower Washington Heights residents—especially women and marginalized groups—by providing practical self-defense skills that boost safety, confidence, and resilience.

We look forward to collaborating with the community in Washington Heights and Inwood, and engaging the community based organizations to help bring a positive impact to the community.
