What problem would you like to solve?

There are not enough black and brown people in the sciences. This has a negative impact on youth seeing themselves as able to build a career in the sciences.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Youth can build careers and advance the scientific field in adulthood, but only when they grow up interested in science. Further, when black and brown people are not participating in scientific research and discoveries, this skews our vision of the world, further excluding people.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

Local projects with youth that seek to solve local problems with different applications of the sciences. Practical, hands-on projects, where youth envision solutions and apply to day-to-day issues. Priority should be given to communities with immigrant and Black youth.

    Who would that help?

    Immigrant and Black youth

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

    Brooklyn
