Social Justice Incubator

Avatar: Community Member Community Member

What problem would you like to solve?

We live in a day in age where problems are increasingly interconnected, and young people are being quickly jaded with the state of the world. Many young people do not feel like political change is possible and that politicians do not represent them or listen to them.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Young people need more opportunities to come together and equip themselves with the necessary context and skills to be able to combat issues in their neighborhoods, have a network of other young people to rely on, and feel like political change is possible and in their hands.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

We should create a social justice incubator in Queens made up of about 20 young people aged 11-24, who come together twice a month to discuss local issues, powermap the actors involved in those issues, gain organizing skills, and make meaningful action plans to affect change.

Who would that help?

Young people in need of an outlet to talk about politics/social movements and also learn skills!

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

Queens
