What problem would you like to solve?

We need to increase breastfeeding promotion, protection, and support.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Breastfeeding improves health and saves lives, both in the immediate term and in the future. Unfortunately, however, there is limited support for breastfeeding in the city. Over 90% of parents want to breastfeed, but stop because there is no support. Furthermore, Black pregnant and breastfeeding people breastfeed at significantly lower rates than their white counterparts. Black maternal and infant mortality rates are significantly higher as a result. We need more support for women of color who want to breastfeed their children.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

We need to finance comprehensive lactation programs, including a lactation center where women can learn more about lactation from licensed professionals and young people can intern and learn more.

Who would that help?

This would help pregnant and breastfeeding people, infants, children, and families.
