What problem would you like to solve?

NYC has a limited amount of rec centers that are free until age 24, and relatively affordable after that, but are not well-maintained and not available in all neighborhoods.

Many people face barriers in accessing rec centers, green space and parks existing in this city, whether in terms of ability, financial barriers, or distance

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Parks and rec and access to green space = public health and wellbeing. Green space and infrastructure intersects 100% with people's physical, mental, and physiological wellbeing. There is a 'green desert' in certain areas of our city and this is an issue.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

    • Expand green space in our city in areas with large population of not enough green space
    • Remove barriers to access (e.g. fees for botanical gardens for city residents, etc.)
    • Use unutilized government space to create community gardens, subsidizing cost of park admissions

    Who would that help?

Everyone! Especially those who can't afford to travel far, but live in green deserts

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

    Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens
