Essential

Parking Meters For Manhattan

Avatar: Community Member Community Member

What problem would you like to solve?

-Revenue generation for the city/ street scape projects ($4 billion annually, then declining)

-Street space allocation for trash

-Congestion of traffic (car, pedestrian, bicycle)

-Pollution

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

-Projects cost money

-Quality of life pollution

-Reconsidering street space allocation can allow for better/faster transit and options

-Traffic safety- saving lives

-Disincentivizing driving means less pollution

What idea do you have to address the problem?

-Manhattan real estate is among the most valuable in the world, yet much is given through free on-street parking

-Charging $11/hour for on street parking could generate billions in revenue

-Car owners/drivers in NYC average to be more wealthy and should pay for parking

Who would that help?

-Everyone

-Local residents, commuters, tourism, retail business fronts etc.

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

Manhattan
