What idea do you have to address the problem?

Voices of Lefferts: The Flatbush-PLG Community Writing Journal, and more than 40 oral history interviews. More information can be found on our website: https://voicesoflefferts.org. We propose a new project called "Whose Streets? Our Streets: Stories of Struggle, Joy, and Change in Flatbush" that will continue our free eight-session writing workshops, expand our oral history program, and add music and children's lore to our activities. Our partners in this new initiative include the Flatbush African Burial Ground Coalition, CaribBeing, Continuum Culture and Arts, Inc., the Maple Street School, and the Center for Brooklyn History. We aim to document the history of the FABG and the struggle to preserve and commemorate the site as well as the rich cultural history of the Caribbean community. In addition, we are excited to extend our research to children's lore, music, and games, and to the musical traditions of Central Brooklyn.Voices of Lefferts has served the PLG-Flatbush community by creating spaces for the people who live here to tell their stories in their own words. We now aim to expand our geographical and topical scope to the voices of FABG, the musical traditions and figures of Central Brooklyn, and children. To achieve our goals, we need funding. Although we have had success in applying for grants and have been funded by Humanities NY, the Brooklyn Arts Council, and CCNYC, we are now in need of additional support to continue this important cultural work.
