Essential

FOOD 24/7 Fridges and Pantries

Avatar: Official proposal Official proposal

What problem would you like to solve?

Food insecurity, especially in immigrant communities.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

It is important to solve food insecurity issues because it has an impact on academic performance and on health outcomes in our community. This is relevant because of the many low income families in the community and the thousands of asylum seekers that are now calling East Harlem home.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

We would like to fund more community fridges in East Harlem that can provide access to food to anyone in need. We also want funds to be utilized to open food pantries that can be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We want these pantries to be run in non-threatening ways in which people are not asked questions and documentation in order to receive nutritional resources.

Who would that help?

This would help all food insecure individuals and families in East Harlem.

What neighborhood would benefit from your idea?

East Harlem
