The idea has been edited by Assembly Members and CEC staff to fit ballot character limits and remove all references to specific institutions and geographies. Idea Submission for The People's Money:
The proposed program, Pathways Forward, aims to support individuals who have experienced housing instability or homelessness in rebuilding their lives and reentering the workforce with confidence. Many housing-impacted individuals face significant barriers to employment, including gaps in work history, limited access to education or training, and a lack of support in navigating today’s job market. These challenges often make it difficult for them to achieve long-term stability and independence. This job readiness program will provide participants with hands-on training in essential career skills such as resume writing, interviewing, time management, and digital literacy. In addition, the program will connect individuals with local employers, mentorship opportunities, and vocational training in fields with strong job growth potential. By offering both skill development and personal support, Pathways Forward helps participants gain the confidence, professionalism, and resources needed to secure and maintain stable employment.
What is the problem your idea aims to address?
The problems this idea aims to address include the significant barriers that housing-impacted individuals face when trying to reenter the workforce and rebuild stability in their lives. Many people who have experienced homelessness or housing insecurity struggle with unemployment, lack of access to job training, and limited education or professional experience. They often face stigma, low confidence, and difficulty finding employers willing to give them opportunities. In addition, they may lack essential resources such as transportation, technology, or proper interview attire—further limiting their ability to compete in today’s job market. The Pathways Forward program directly tackles these issues by providing structured job readiness training, career development resources, and support systems that help participants gain the skills, confidence, and connections needed to achieve sustainable employment and long-term independence.
