Essential

Small Business of NYC's Women

Idea Submission for The People's Money:
The need for greater support to help community members—especially immigrants and women—build successful small businesses. Key points raised include: Free Training and Skill Development – Access to free classes and workshops to help individuals develop business, language, and technical skills. Dedicated City Office for Business Education – Establishing an office under city authority to provide proper guidance, education, and reliable information about starting and running a business. Accessible Communication and Legal Support – Creating a free, community-friendly resource center to offer legal advice, rights information, and communication assistance for entrepreneurs. Public Exposure Opportunities – Organizing community events, markets, and fairs to help small businesses promote their products and services. Financial Support and Small Business Loans – Providing financial assistance, such as low-interest or community-based loans, to help entrepreneurs invest and grow their businesses.
What is the problem your idea aims to address?
It is often challenging for immigrant women to navigate the information and resources needed to establish small businesses. There are not enough support systems or accessible guidance for aspiring entrepreneurs within this community in their language.
