Essential

Make 5th Avenue one way (or no-parking) and add a separated two-way bike lane between 24th - 54th street (or at least 24th - 36th street)

Do you have specific Neighborhood(s) in mind?

Sunset Park

Describe the challenge you want to address:

Currently, there is a constant and persistent issue with bikers (including on motorized bikes) using the sidewalk running along Greenwood Cemetery and into Sunset Park alongside pedestrians, and often not yielding to them or swerving dangerously around them. I've seen no enforcement of basic rules, but think this also exposes a broader issue of bikers feeling unsafe using this narrow stretch on 5th avenue that is somehow supposed to accommodate two way traffic, parking, and bikes.

What is the solution to the challenge?

We need some common sense urban design. Either make the road one way, with parking and a separate bike lane or two way with no parking and a separate bike lane. Or something else - surely someone with more experience can come up with a creative solution, but it is untenable, unsafe, and also contributes to a feeling of lawlessness and general apathy towards following basic rules and caring about the safety of others that is starting to pervade everyday life in NYC.
