Describe the challenge you want to address:
When Bloomberg was mayor, he implemented a 'Cool Roofs' program - volunteers painted roofs white to save energy and extend the life of the roof. A/c bills lowered by up to 30% in the summer, and reduced roof repair costs for homeowners. Also helped reduce the heat island effect, and helps conserve energy thus impacting climate change, a problem which effects all of us. DeBlasio let this program drop.
What is the solution to the challenge?
Make a big push for cool roofs! It's so simply and cheap that regular small building owners can implement it. It's such low-hanging fruit for NYC. Flyer the neighborhoods, email people, do an event where the mayor rolls white paint across a flat roof. Possibilities abound.
