Describe the challenge you want to address:: For the public housing communities near Lincoln Center, there is a lack of affordable fresh produce in the neighborhood. Many residents have to travel far (e.g. Bronx, Queens) to find affordable and also culturally relevant fruits and vegetables. The difficulty accessing fresh produce makes it harder to follow a healthy diet and negatively impacts people's health. Rising obesity rates, for example, will result in increased medical expenditures.
What is the solution to the challenge?: A subsidized program of fruits and vegetables run by the non-profit and community-based organization Corbin Hill Food Project will engage the low-income community so they are their own agents of change.
