Protected bike lanes have been demonstrated to reduce serious injuries and deaths for cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers citywide. Protected bike lanes are proven safety infrastructure and would serve to increase access to affordable and sustainable transportation options for all residents. There is great demand for safe cycling in the district and low rates of automobile ownership so Brooklyn Community District 2 is a prime candidate for a large buildout of bike infrastructure.\n\n

Describe your idea and approach to address the challenge:

\n\n
The mayor is mandated by Local Law 195 of 1049 to install 50 miles of protected bike lanes citywide every calendar year until 2027. NYC DOT should conduct a study to determine the most appropriate corridors to install protected bike lanes in the district that both increase total mileage and the bicycle network connectivity index as defined by the relevant local law. DOT should identify at least one corridor for each cardinal direction, i.e., east, west, north, and, south, as candidates for protected bike lanes to create dedicated channels for cyclists to travel within and through the district. The study should attempt to measure the reduction in total hospital visits and deaths that can be achieved by implementing the protected bike lane network identified by the study.\n\n

Write the zipcode that best represents your New York City community:

\n\n
11104; 11205; 11217; 11238\n\n

</xml>"]
