• Original Idea Voted on by New Yorkers: Restaurants will partner with local food pantries to provide healthy meals. Families will pick up the food at monthly healthy food workshops focused on health issues. Services will be multilingual.

How does your organization plan to bring this idea to life?

Our workshops will offer community members the opportunity to learn how to prepare healthy meals using affordable ingredients. Families will be able to take home donated meals from our restaurant partners. In addition, families will receive grocery packages from our food pantry and a small gift card to assist with completing their meals at home.

What motivated your organization to apply to implement this idea?

Commonpoint aims to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families in Queens, NYC, by providing a range of services for all ages and backgrounds. It serves 85,000 people each year through five main community centers in Jamaica, Elmhurst/Corona, Forest Hills, Little Neck, and Bay Terrace, as well as 85 additional community sites.

How do you think this project will make a difference in your community?

This project will have a lasting impact by addressing food insecurity through meals and grocery packages while equipping community members with nutritional knowledge and culinary skills for healthier choices. It will ensure dignity in food selection and prioritize inclusivity by offering services in multiple languages.

As Commonpoint expands its services in the Queens community, we are thrilled to explore new and innovative ways to support and engage residents. This growth presents exciting opportunities to strengthen connections and enhance the well-being of individuals and families throughout the borough.

How can someone participate or stay up to date on the project?

They will receive an email blast; we are working with Cornerstone programs in NYCHA developments to share with their families. Additionally, we will utilize social media to promote and tag the local areas where the workshop will be hosted
