Documentary Showcasing the Diversity of Queens

Avatar: Community Member Community Member

What problem would you like to solve?

No one has attempted in doing a strong ethnography/documentary style project showcasing the diversity of Queens through storytelling.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Noting oral history and using that as a way of remembering people and celebrating the borough is important so we don't forget what it means to be a community. It can help people be more empathetic as well.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

We should launch a year-long documentary project identifying people in each neighborhood in Queens, and inviting them to tell us "their story". We should film this and put conversations in touch with one another, and tell the larger story of Queens with all of its complexity. At the end, we should launch a massive screening!

Who would that help?

Everyone in Queens :)

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

Queens
