What can I do?

What problem would you like to solve?

Detainees on Riker's Island need a legal advice hotline to call and get advice on legal procedures and policy on who to write to receive the correct legal information.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

Detainees have no real legal assistance. Lawyers are too busy and legal coordinators are too overburdened by the sheer number of detainees. Advice on how to do legal maneuvers and tactics.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

A hotline to call to speak with lawyers/clerks/judges, etc. Not on how to specifically fight their cases but advice on legal strategies and services available.

Who would that help?

The pro se litigant and the defendant who has attorneys who don't listen to how the defendant wants to proceed.

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

Riker's Island, Queens
