What problem would you like to solve?

The problem that I would like to solve is gang violence, violence in our DOE schools.

Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

It's important because this exposure to violence can increase the risk of smoking, alcohol and drug abuse, mental health. The number one to sole is suicide which is not being addressed. It's relevant to our community because as the violence increases in N.Y.C. these forms of violence affects individuals and their families.

What idea do you have to address the problem?

My idea is to start by using a public health approach, this offers a useful framework for preventing violence. We have to define the problem, identifying causes and risk factors.

Who would that help?

Our African American Communities, our youth.

What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?

Queens
